The Village of Pleasant Prairie in Kenosha County, Wisconsin is bordered by Lake Michigan on the East, Interstate 94 on the West, the Illinois/Wisconsin State Line on the South and the City of Kenosha City Limits on the North. This location is ideal due to its convenience to a multitude of recreational and employment opportunities as well as its convenience to the urban centers of Milwaukee, Chicago, Racine and Burlington. Demographically, Pleasant Prairie encompasses approximately 34 square miles with a population now in excess of 20,000 people. One such area is known as Chiwaukee Prairie due to its location approximately half way between Milwaukee and Chicago. The Village was founded in the 1840's and has a rich history including the devastating explosion of a major gun powder company in 1875. Pleasant Prairie was also known as Tar Corners for the second half of the 1800s due to the tarring and feathering of a thief apprehended in the community.
